Overview

We are seeking to establish a pool of Senior Gardener - Handypersons for permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. Kent Street Senior High School (SHS) is an Independent Public School located near the Perth CBD. The role supports a diverse range of programs and school facilities, contributing to a safe and inviting outdoor environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise tasks performed by Gardeners and maintain school grounds to ensure they are safe, tidy, and conducive to a positive environment.
  • Oversee turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, and manage hard landscaping features such as courts and tiered limestone seating areas.
  • Maintain gardening facilities, equipment, and tools in good condition; promote a positive culture within the school.
  • Collaborate with the Manager Corporate Services and the Facilities Coordinator to develop safe work procedures, undertake risk assessments, and ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation.
  • Communicate effectively to develop and maintain relationships with school staff and external stakeholders; manage at least two gardening staff.
Qualifications and Eligibility
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
