Organisation context

The Katherine District Hospital is an accredited 60-bed non-specialist medical, diagnostic and treatment facility catering for the medical needs of the population of Katherine and surrounding Big River Region. The hospital is known for its friendly and professional approach to the health and wellbeing of its clients and is accredited with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

Responsibilities
  • As a Social Worker within the Allied Health team, you will work across various settings, including acute, sub-acute, community, rehabilitee, domestic family and sexual violence and palliative care, providing vital support to vulnerable populations, particularly Indigenous communities.
  • Your day-to-day duties involve delivering appropriate Social Work services and culturally sensitive care, advocating for patients, and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to achieve work unit goals.
  • You will be responsible for managing a caseload within a dynamic and evolving work environment and contributing to continuous quality improvement and service developments activities.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Australian tertiary qualification which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Post-graduate experience in providing contemporary high-level clinical Social Work services
  • Proven ability to manage a high-volume workload efficiently and effectively
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures, and the ability to communicate and work in a culturally safe manner
  • Current NT drivers' licence or ability to obtain one; willingness to travel by car, 4WD, or light aircraft to remote communities
