Overview

Medical Laboratory Assistant - Molecular Medicine. Temporary Full Time position up to February 2026, with potential for ongoing employment. Location: John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle region.

Join NSW Health Pathology's Molecular Medicine Department, a Genomics laboratory focused on cancer genomic testing and routine molecular genetics and cytogenetic investigations. Work with a team of trained professionals delivering quality genomic testing solutions in a patient-focused service.

Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory support and/or specimen reception services and/or collection services, assisting laboratory staff under supervision to deliver patient-focused service.
  • Work in a highly sophisticated Genomics Laboratory that specialises in cancer genomic testing in addition to routine molecular genetics and cytogenetic investigations.
  • Support the laboratory team with high-quality work output while managing competing priorities.
Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, all aspects of the laboratory environment relevant to the Department.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience and skills, preferably in a laboratory environment, with effective communication with customers, patients and clinical staff.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to investigate and resolve general issues within the laboratory environment.
  • Excellent data entry skills with high attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Awareness of legislation, policies and requirements relevant to a laboratory setting.
  • Understanding of genetics and molecular techniques and their application in a diagnostic pathology laboratory.
