About the job
As the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, you will operate independently at the Port Pirie plant, while remaining an integral part of a larger, collaborative team across multiple sites. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of our Wastewater Treatment Plant in accordance with relevant Corporation and industry standards. You will regularly liaise with the Wastewater Treatment Coordinator, Technical Support Officers, Quality Systems Officers, and Work Planners to coordinate production and maintain the quality of wastewater and recycled water.

About Operations and Maintenance

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:
Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and engage audiences with our business strategy and its delivery across South Australia, every day.

You will:

  • Actively contribute to the team, ensuring efforts align with achieving goals safely and efficiently
  • Respond promptly to significant deviations from normal plant performance
  • Take decisive action in consultation with the Wastewater Treatment Coordinator, Operators, or Technical Support Officer
  • Perform daily operations following Quality Management System standards
  • Support the development and improvement of management system procedures
  • Maintain Wastewater Treatment Plants according to asset maintenance plans
  • Assist trades with plant and land management tasks
  • Coordinate with workshops and contractors to organise corrective maintenance of equipment
  • Participate in investigations and research projects as required
  • Travel and rotate through other treatment plants based on business needs

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Operational knowledge of wastewater treatment processes (desirable)
  • Experience in a trade-related background
  • A sound understanding of WHS, environmental, and water quality principles and practices
  • Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Capability to perform laboratory analyses
  • Proficiency in using computers for data entry, work scheduling, emails, ordering materials and services, and completing routine paperwork
  • Possession of a valid White Card
