Proven Databricks Solution Architecture experience in enterprise-scale environments

Advanced Spark and cloud architecture skills (Azure, AWS, or GCP)

Currently based in Australia and able to work on a daily-rate contract basis (~$1k–$1.45k+ AUD/day)

Role Overview

We're seeking an elite Databricks Resident Solution Architect for a high-profile Melbourne engagement. You'll act as a trusted advisor to enterprise stakeholders — leading the design, integration, and optimisation of complex Databricks-based lakehouse platforms. This role demands exceptional technical expertise, strong client leadership skills, and hands-on delivery in production environments.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Architecting at Enterprise Scale– Design and deliver data architectures using Databricks Lakehouse Platform, including Medallion architecture and modern governance frameworks
  • Spark Performance Optimisation– Tune Spark for scale (skew, spills, memory constraints) using AQE, structured streaming, and advanced partitioning
  • Advanced Data Engineering– Build optimised pipelines using Python/Scala, Delta Lake, DBT, and Databricks SQL
  • Migration & Transformation– Lead large-scale migrations from legacy platforms to Databricks
  • Technical Leadership– Run client workshops, translate requirements into technical designs, mentor teams, and deliver PoCs
  • Lakehouse Governance– Apply best practices with Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, Autoloader, Photon, and Z-Ordering
  • Cloud Expertise– Leverage Azure, AWS, and IaC tools such as Terraform

Your Skills & Experience

  • Databricks Technologies– Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, Autoloader, Photon, Structured Streaming, Databricks SQL
  • Programming– Expert Python, solid Scala
  • Architecture– Lakehouse, Medallion, Data Mesh, and modern data engineering principles
  • Data Formats & Tools– Delta, Iceberg, Parquet, SCD, DBT, Git, CI/CD workflows
  • Consulting Skills– Client-facing delivery, strong communication, and technical leadership
