About the roleYou will be an experienced Scientist joining the Microbiology department.
You will be responsible for:
- Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
- Perform all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for pathological diagnosis
- Assist with stock control
- Maintain records and record results in line with protocols
- Maintain and operate all equipment per protocols
- Maintain current scientific knowledge
- Participate in routine and audit-related Quality Assurance activities
- Contribute to continuous improvement and development of new assays as required
- Participate in training staff
- Liaise with internal and/or external stakeholders regarding test results or referrals as necessary
- Comply with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
Essential requirements:
- Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the discipline
- Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in line with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Commitment to quality and excellence
- Willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
- Positive attitude and ability to be a cohesive, contributing team member
- Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
- Ability to cope in a busy environment
- Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine-preventable diseases
