About the role

You will be an experienced Scientist joining the Microbiology department.

You will be responsible for:

  • Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
  • Perform all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for pathological diagnosis
  • Assist with stock control
  • Maintain records and record results in line with protocols
  • Maintain and operate all equipment per protocols
  • Maintain current scientific knowledge
  • Participate in routine and audit-related Quality Assurance activities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and development of new assays as required
  • Participate in training staff
  • Liaise with internal and/or external stakeholders regarding test results or referrals as necessary
  • Comply with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
About you

Essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the discipline
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in line with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Commitment to quality and excellence
  • Willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • Positive attitude and ability to be a cohesive, contributing team member
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to cope in a busy environment
  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine-preventable diseases
