- DVConnect's Sexual Violence Support Service operates between 07:30 – 23:30, 7 days a week. This is a phone-based role.
About your role
As a Response & Connection Practitioner for the Sexual Violence Support Service, you will focus on providing high quality support to individuals who have been impacted by sexual violence and assault or have been identified as part of the Commission of Inquiry into Forensic DNA Testing in Queensland. Although no two days are the same, you can expect to assist inbound callers by providing crisis counselling, information, risk assessment and referral pathways to ongoing specialist counselling from either our own Specialist Counsellors or recommended external counselling services. The role works collaboratively with the Queensland Sexual Assault Network service, Queensland Police, and other community services. As part of the Sexual Violence Support Line, it is important that our practitioners maintain and build positive working relationships with external stakeholders to facilitate smooth referral pathways to all clients accessing our service.
Position Requirements
- Completed bachelor's degree in fields such as (or relevant to) human services, social work, counselling or psychology.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in areas relevant community and human services field with the ability to apply a trauma informed approach and other relevant practice frameworks/ theories.
- Risk assessments, safety planning, referrals, safe de-escalation skills, and upholding client confidentiality and privacy. Supporting high-risk clients and/or client intake experience is also required.
- Professional understanding of the effects causes and dynamics of Domestic, Family & Sexual violence.
- Confidence in navigating IT and phone systems such as CRMs, Microsoft Office suite etc. You must be able to promptly type case notes during calls and maintain database accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing tasks within agreed timeframes, including planning, implementation, and coordination of practical support or case management.
- Significant demonstrated experience navigating sensitive situations calmly and professionally.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders, including both sector and non-sector partners.
- High level of empathy and cultural awareness when engaging with diverse groups; including working towards supportive and culturally safe spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- You must currently hold or be willing to obtain a (P) BlueCard.
- You must be willing to complete a National Crime Check (NCC) facilitated by DV Connect. Employment is subject to NCC outcome.
- Hold a valid photo ID.
- Right to work in Australia.
- Knowledge and understanding (or willingness to acquire) about the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 and other relevant legislations.
- Providing support to individuals who have been impacted by recent and/or historic sexual violence and assault.
