I help Australasian businesses recruit experts within the Energy and Renewables sector.

I'm looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to take a lead role in delivering structural outcomes across high-voltage substations and renewable energy projects. The position reports to the Civil/Structural Engineering Lead and is focused on the design, review, and technical authority of structures associated with utility-scale infrastructure.

This role would suit someone who enjoys working on complex, high-risk projects and wants to be part of the energy transition—shaping the infrastructure that underpins large-scale battery, solar, and grid connection work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all structural design activities from concept through to construction across substation and renewable project scopes.
  • Act as the technical authority for structural design—ensuring everything aligns with industry standards, codes, and compliance requirements.
  • Guide and mentor structural engineers and graduates, supporting technical development across the team.
  • Provide technical input and peer review for structural calcs, reports, and models—ensuring accuracy and buildability.
  • Develop or refine internal tools, templates, and procedures that improve design efficiency and quality.
  • Support structural design of footings, steelwork, and other HV assets using tools like SpaceGass or SLB Inducta.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including civil, electrical, and project delivery to ensure integration across the full project lifecycle.

What I'm Looking For:

  • A degree-qualified structural engineer (CPEng preferred or working towards it).
  • Solid experience delivering structural designs for substations, BESS, and/or renewable energy infrastructure.
  • Familiar with the utility environment, compliance expectations, and how to navigate high-risk infrastructure work.
  • Comfortable working with both internal engineering teams and external stakeholders (e.g., clients, regulatory bodies).
  • Proficient in structural analysis tools and willing to lead by example on quality and safety in design.
