Technical Manager at Soap Solutions | Cosmetics & Personal Care ManufacturingPURPOSE:
To lead the research, development, and improvement of our personal care product lines in addition to providing functional, technical support to the Production, Quality and Sales teams in the daily operation of the business and project fulfilment / management.
More specifically, you'll be the representative of the lab function in the business, assisting all other teams with any technical related requirements including documentation preparation from project brief to launch or compliance, investigative testing for QC issues from production/complaints, reviewing industry trends, management of laboratory technicians. You will of course be responsible for the development, quality, and safety of product formulations from briefing to scale & launch, and everything in between.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical support to production, quality and management team, addressing formulation or production related issues and identify solutions and/or improvements.
- Conduct comprehensive stability, performance testing and sensory assessments on formulations to ensure product efficacy, quality and optimising consumer experience.
- Responsible for document consolidation and preparation for all relevant requirements of client projects (Certification / regulatory / quality) as required from Sales, Production, Marketing and Quality team.
- Research and evaluation of new ingredients, working directly with and meeting material suppliers and ensuring compliance with global regulatory/safety requirements, and certifications as required.
- Create and maintain documentation, including formula templates, Bill of Materials, Ingredient lists and technical reports e.g., Certificate of Analysis (CoA), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Ingredient Lists, etc.
- Review of packaging content (ingredient lists, claims, copy) as required.
- Responsible for management of laboratory technicians, delegating tasks, workflow scheduling, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Perform ad hoc duties and internal support as requested by senior management. (From time to time as the business evolves, senior leadership may request you are allocated additional responsibilities / tasks for personal and professional development.)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Tertiary qualifications in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Cosmetic Science, or related field.
- 1+ years of experience in cosmetic and personal care product formulation and development.
- Experience working in FMCG or manufacturing heavily favoured
- Qualification in Cosmetic Chemistry / Formulations is heavily favoured
SKILLS:
- Strong, proven communication and team-work skills.
- Proven record in successfully launching stable and high-quality personal care products in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional documentation and reporting abilities.
- Proficiency in documentation management.
- Knowledge of global regulatory requirements for cosmetics and personal care products.
TECHNICAL UNDERSTANDING:
- Surfactant and emulsion systems.
- Ingredient interactions.
- Rheology, viscosity, and texture.
- Microbiological testing.
