SUPPS is dedicated to supporting pregnant women facing substance use challenges. We offer intake assessments, treatment services, and case management during pregnancy and postpartum, with plans to extend care up to two years postnatally.

What You'll Be Doing

The Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC)/Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert practitioner who, through leadership facilitates evidence based practice. The CMC/CNC will promote a service which fosters clinical excellence, research and professional leadership.

The CMC/CNC contributes to quality health care by collaborating with the health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes. The CMC/CNC is responsible for providing services which facilitate effective management of the care in the given specialty.

Where You'll Be Working

SWSLHD Drug Health Services operates across the South Western Sydney Local Health District, providing a comprehensive range of treatments and interventions for individuals, families, and carers affected by alcohol and other drug use.

The services include inpatient withdrawal at the 'Corella' unit in Fairfield, the Opioid Treatment Program, outpatient clinics, and specialised teams such as the Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Team and the Youth Service.

How To Apply

  • Current Authority to Practice as a Midwife/Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). At least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 3 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field. In addition, the employee must have approved postgraduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which the employee is appointed, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation. Drug and Alcohol experience is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement effective strategies for maintaining current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research within the relevant specialty, ensuring expertise remains at the forefront of evidence-based care. Additionally, proven capacity to apply this expert knowledge to deliver safe, compassionate, high quality care that is culturally responsive and tailored to the diverse needs of patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and engage with patients/consumers, carers, and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and respond to care needs. Additionally, proven capacity to interact in a personable and professional manner while proactively managing and resolving conflicts to foster a collaborative and supportive healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking in the delivery of advanced, evidence-based midwifery/nursing care, ensuring high-quality clinical outcomes. Additionally, proven understanding and active participation in risk management, workplace health and safety, and continuous quality improvement initiatives to maintain and enhance standards of care.
