Townsville, Queensland, Australia Safe Places for Children Full time

About Us

At Safe Places, it's all about the young people.

Each child is unique with their own story. So, we tailor care plans and personalise their living environment, surrounded by a carefully selected team of youth workers.

Established in 2006 as a non-profit in Queensland, we've cared for over 2000 young people. Our philosophy revolves around providing care, support, affection, and hope to young people in our community. We're expanding rapidly and seeking talented team members who share our values and wish to join our community for mutual success.

About the Role

We are looking for passionate Youth Workers to work directly with young people who are vulnerable and in need of assistance. Our Youth Workers are the positive influence in their lives to help them build life skills, healthy attachments, and work through challenges and tough times together. The ultimate outcome is guiding them to live a fulfilled and independent life.

This role is for permanent employment offering 24-hour care for our Young People within a residential setting. The rosters comprise of overnight stays and therefore shifts are spread across each fortnight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Building a strong connection and trust with young people, acting as a role model with residential house duties.
  • Navigate through their personal challenges, providing both emotional & professional support in collaboration with the team of Youth Workers, Case Managers, and other relevant community services.
  • Help engage in post-crisis support functions to better support young people with complex needs and behaviours.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to openly engage and build trust with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Implement strategies and tactics to mentor and teach our youth necessary life skills.
  • Maintain a strong will and resilience to bounce back from tough situations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results.
  • Hold and maintain a full QLD Driver's License.
  • Working with Children Check (QLD Blue Card).
  • Hold a Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or equivalent.
  • Applicants must be eligible to live and work in Australia.

Due to the trauma-sensitive nature of work, we require our inductee Youth Workers to successfully complete the Induction Program before they can be assigned to a young person. As such, employment offers are made on a casual basis and following the successful completion of the Induction Program, permanent, full-time offers are made. Candidates will need to be available to attend the Induction Program which takes approximately 3 weeks.

Why Choose Safe Places?

  • Above-award guaranteed weekly income that improves financial stability.
  • Annual anniversary bonuses (up to $5000 based on number of years of service).
  • Rewards and recognition system that appreciates and celebrates your achievements.
  • Access to discounts and cashbacks at hundreds of retailers across Australia.
  • 6 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading and annual bonuses.
  • Generous salary packaging to increase your take-home pay.
  • On-call support during shifts.
  • 24/7 access to Employee Assistance Program.

Investing in Your Success:

  • Full support for career progression studies.
  • Leadership Academy for developmental pathways.
  • Career progression opportunities.
