Overview

The HSEA Specialist works with site leadership to drive improved HSE and Administrative performance. HSEA Specialists are responsible for stewarding the implementation of all site environmental, health and safety activities in line with Graymont, regulatory and statutory requirements, and serve as local process owners for these areas of responsibility.

Our Role

The HSEA Specialist works with site leadership and regional managers to drive improved HSE performance. The Administrator function supports site administration in line with Graymont's systems and policies, supporting the site leadership team and completing other general administration duties.

  • Foster the Graymont workplace culture and emphasise world-class safety, environmental and quality performance.
  • Collaborate to implement and provide training, information and support to enable site leaders to meet their health, safety, environmental and quality accountabilities.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a role model in care for others, safety, environment and quality outcomes.
All Areas
  • Influence employees and supervisors to take responsibility for their behaviours.
  • Support the development and implementation of relevant metrics and performance coaching conversations.
  • Implement systems and tools to ensure compliance with health and safety, environment and quality standards.
  • Engage with operational staff and people leaders to ensure understanding and use of required systems and tools.
  • Report and investigate health, safety, environment, quality and community incidents and make recommendations for prevention and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in internal and external audits with the Site Manager and oversee corrective actions arising from identified deficiencies.
  • Drive and participate in the continuous improvement of processes and outcomes.
  • Provide project management support as required.
Admin Assistant
  • Greet visitors and contractors and manage sign-in/sign-out procedures.
  • Ensure visitors and contractors wear appropriate PPE, have completed relevant safety inductions, key risk statements, and valid competencies before site access.
  • Coordinate accounts payable actions for overdue orders and correctly coded requisitions (TAPS).
  • General reception and clerical duties including handling incoming calls and post/courier deliveries.
  • Complete weighbridge/despatch responsibilities as required and assist drivers as needed.
  • Assist with site document control and archiving under the Plant Manager's direction and maintain confidentiality.
  • Attend meetings and support continuous improvement of administrative processes.
  • Participate in continuous learning to develop new skills.
Health & Safety
  • Promote safety responsibility across the site and ensure adherence to regulatory and Graymont requirements.
  • Facilitate safety risk management, assist in hazard identification, risk assessment, controls, housekeeping, and closing gaps.
  • Maintain access to appropriate PPE and oversee incident management and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate reviews of site safety procedures and controlled documents as required.
  • Facilitate injury management, medical surveillance and return-to-work programs and respond to workers' compensation investigations.
Environment & Community
  • Promote environmental responsibility and ensure compliance with regulatory and Graymont environmental requirements.
  • Ensure environmental licenses and permits are in place and renewed in time with support as needed.
  • Conduct environmental audits and monitoring (water, noise, dust).
  • Ensure timely statutory reporting and coordinate stakeholder communications and corrective actions.
  • Support site rehabilitation and community engagement activities, including meetings and sponsorships.
  • Engage with regulators, local council, neighbours and other stakeholders in line with Graymont values.
Qualifications & Attributes
  • Nationally recognized qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety and/or Environment and/or Quality Management or equivalent, and/or 3 years relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with operational leadership, communicate effectively and train others.
  • Strong influencing skills to achieve role requirements and organizational objectives.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and practical implementation in operations.
  • Experience in continuous improvement and capability to undertake a broad range of HSE activities.
  • Strong time management, problem solving, reporting, and attention to detail.
  • Autonomous, safe, and efficient working with intermittent guidance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; strong Microsoft Office and systems experience.
  • Nationally recognized qualification in Workplace Training & Assessor (or equivalent).
  • Training in Auditor/Lead Auditor (preferred).
