National Head of Accounts – Canberra

We are seeking an ambitious National Head of Accounts to join our team based in our Canberra office.

You are a strong communicator and relationship builder, passionate about customer care and delivering exceptional results. Self-motivated, compassionate, and optimistic, you thrive in a leadership role where you can influence and improve financial operations.

This is an office-based role in Canberra where you will be directly responsible for the management and leadership of the Accounts Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services across Australia.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage financial operations, including accounting, reporting, and compliance with all regulatory requirements (BAS, Tax returns).
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and improve business systems.
  • Lead and mentor the accounts team, providing training, guidance, and support.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to set KPIs, track progress, and update the leadership team.
  • Manage external relationships with auditors, banks, and vendors, representing the organisation's financial interests in all dealings.
Qualifications
  • Australian Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce.
  • CA, CPA, or NIA qualification.
  • Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and taxation laws (income tax, GST, FBT, capital gains).
  • 5+ years' experience in a similar senior role in Australia.
  • Proven track record of achievement with a proactive, high-performing mindset.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills across all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Real Estate knowledge desirable
  • Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) (highly regarded but not essential).
