Position Overview

We are looking for a Level 2 Signal Mechanical Design Engineer with proven expertise in the production and verification of railway mechanical signalling designs. The role involves preparing design deliverables, ensuring compliance with signalling mechanical requirements and standards, and conducting reviews of functional design documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Produce signal mechanical design deliverables in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct final checking of designs against signalling mechanical requirements, standards, and functional design documentation.
  • Carry out independent reviews of designs where required.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to resolve technical issues and maintain design integrity.
  • Ensure all work is delivered in compliance with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical input to multidisciplinary teams during design and implementation phases.
  • Support the documentation and traceability of design activities for audit and regulatory purposes.
Supervision Requirement

If not accredited as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), all work classified as a Professional Engineering Service must be undertaken under the direct supervision of a Signal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 2 or higher) with current RPEQ accreditation.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or equivalent qualification acceptable for professional membership with Engineers Australia).
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in railway mechanical signalling design.
  • Optional: RPEQ accreditation.
  • Strong understanding of signalling mechanical standards, requirements, and functional documentation.
Mandatory Documentation
  • Certified copy of engineering qualification.
  • Work Experience / Log Book demonstrating current and relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in mechanical signalling design production and verification.
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve design issues.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and under professional supervision where required.
