Overview

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on leader to join our senior leadership team as Director of Event Technology. In this role, you will define and deliver the technical vision for all live, hybrid and virtual events.

You'll be working with one of the most respected names in the industry — a recognised leader in event technology — known for delivering world-class production and technical excellence across high-profile events.

This is an opportunity to shape the audience experience, drive innovation, and lead a high-performing team at the forefront of the event tech landscape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the event technology team: hire, mentor, establish best practices, and ensure continuous upskilling.

  • Develop, maintain, and optimise the event tech strategy, architecture and infrastructure — including AV systems, virtual / hybrid platforms, streaming, broadcast, lighting, projection, rigging, and related hardware & software.

  • Oversee vendor and supplier relationships: sourcing, contract negotiation, procurement, and performance management.

  • Collaborate closely with event operations, production, creative, IT, and marketing teams to ensure technical requirements are embedded early, budgets are accurate, and solutions are scalable.

  • Ensure quality, reliability, and consistency of event technology delivery across multiple events, including risk mitigation, backup planning, and compliance with safety / legal / regulatory requirements.

  • Stay current with emerging event technologies, trends and innovations; evaluate and pilot new tools & platforms that could enhance attendee engagement or operational efficiency.

  • Own technical budget and P&L for event technology; forecast technology needs and capital expenditure.

  • Lead technical support during events — rehearsals, load‑in / load‑out, live execution — to ensure seamless execution.

  • Establish and implement metrics and KPIs (tech reliability, subsystem uptime, satisfaction scores, cost per event tech, etc.) to monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.

About You
  • Proven experience in event technology, AV / production, technical operations for live / hybrid / virtual events.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience

  • Strong technical breadth: familiar with AV, streaming, broadcast, lighting, projection, stage rigging, event‑app/ platform integrations, etc.; also able to make architectural decisions.

  • Excellent vendor / supplier management skills; track record negotiating contracts & delivering quality under budget.

  • Solid financial acumen — experience managing budgets, forecasting tech capital investments, cost control.

  • Strong project management skills: able to operate under tight timelines, handle multiple concurrent events, manage risk, and lead live technical operations.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management: able to explain technical issues to non‑technical stakeholders, set expectations, and collaborate cross‑functionally.

  • Adaptability: works well in fast‑paced, changing event environments; problem solver, calm under pressure.

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Engineering, AV Technology, Production, or similar) preferred. Certifications relevant to event tech, AV, streaming, etc., are a plus.

Why This Is a Great Opportunity
  • Lead the technology roadmap for a portfolio of flagship live, hybrid and virtual events; shape the audience experience.

  • Influence senior strategy: you'll contribute to how technology underpins the event product offering, audience engagement, and revenue growth.

  • Opportunity to scale operations, introduce new platform or automation solutions, and leave your mark on operational excellence.

  • Work with cross‑disciplinary, high‑performing teams where technical innovation is valued.

  • Competitive remuneration, with scope for bonuses tied to event and tech performance; professional development budget and exposure to cutting‑edge event tech.

Location & Requirements
  • Based in from a high end Sydney venue five days per week

  • Flexible working hours; event schedule may involve evenings, weekends, on‑site presence.
