This is a 12-month casual position, based in Sydney (various locations available).

This role requires full availability, including weekends and public holidays, as the roads we manage operate 24/7.

About the role

We're seeking casual Traffic Control Room Officers to work in our busy control rooms, redirect traffic flow, coordinate response teams, and relay critical info to keep our roads safe, all while remaining naturally composed and alert at all times.

You'll join an innovative team, who tirelessly monitor the flow of traffic with an eagle eye and respond with lightning speed in the event of incidents, both big and small.

As our Traffic Control Room Officer, you'll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It's meaningful, challenging, and exciting work.

Day-to-day, you will:

• Work with different control systems to monitor and manage traffic on both open roads and in tunnels
• Operate systems such as Automated Height Detectors, Road Management systems, CCTV, Automatic Incident Detection Systems
• Collaborate with field staff and Emergency Services, acting swiftly to respond to incidents to contain events and ensure safety
• Create and implement Incident Management and Traffic Management plans to improve road safety and efficiency
• Think proactively to find new ways to improve processes and traffic management, providing recommendations
• Gather real-time info on road conditions for stakeholders, media, and the public to ensure transparency
• Maintain a rigorous understanding of traffic management policies, practices, and operational systems

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills, including:

• Experience in a monitoring centre or operational environment
• Tech-savvy and analytical, eager to learn new systems
• Driven, resilient, professional, and confident in challenging situations
• Organized, efficient, and decisive, able to prioritize tasks effectively
• Experienced in report writing, focusing on key details for smooth operations
• Comfortable with shift work, as roads operate 24/7
