Leonora District High School (DHS) invites applications for a dedicated Teacher - Design and Technology - Metals and Engineering or Vocational Trainer to join our team, teaching both primary and high school students, with a small class size and a focus on On-Country Learning Experience.

Located in the Goldfields-Esperance region, north of Kalgoorlie, Leonora DHS caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Leonora DHS has a long history of supporting the local community by embracing the cultural diversity of Leonora. With 112 student enrolments, 79% being of Aboriginal heritage, the school embeds the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework throughout the curriculum.

As a Teacher or Vocational Trainer and Assessor, you should possess sound communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for working with young people in a flexible training environment. The ability to manage student groups and deliver the required knowledge and skills is highly desirable.

In addition, you would form industry links and networks to ensure that training meets the needs of industry. The successful applicant will ideally deliver Certificate II in Engineering Pathways to students in Years 10, 11, and 12, develop projects for Year 7, 8, and 9 students based on Engineering, and deliver hands-on projects for primary school students. Experience in other trades training areas such as Automotive would be highly regarded. Familiarity with vocational pathways, workplace learning, and career preparation is also desirable. Experience engaging students with limited literacy levels would be highly desirable.

The successful applicant would deliver quality training programs, assessment tools, and supporting materials to deliver the curriculum to students. Delivery and assessment may include interaction in the classroom, workshop, and compliance with the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) standards. Experience in training environments is a definite advantage in this role.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Leonora District High School in 2025 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $8,500 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.

The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

  • Ability to design and prepare training programs and assessment materials to a high standard.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills with the appropriate interpersonal skills for working with young people.
  • Initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.
