Responsibilities

The Child Protection Counselling Service (CPCS) in South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) seeks a clinician to join a collaborative and professional team. This temporary full-time role is for a Child Protection Counsellor (Social Worker Level 1/2 or Psychologist). The CPCS is based in the Liverpool LGA with counsellors located in Health Centres across SWSLHD; this position is primarily based at the central unit in the Liverpool LGA. The CPCS is a trauma-specific service responding to violence, abuse and neglect involving children and young people, with the overarching aim of recovery and ongoing safety and wellbeing. Services include individual, couple and family counselling, therapy sessions for children and young people after clinical assessment, and group work. Client work is medium to long term and commonly involves outreach or home visiting.

The CPCS sits within the Integrated Prevention and Response to Violence Abuse and Neglect (IPARAVAN) team and aims to deliver integrated trauma-informed care and reflective practice.

Where You'll Be Working

SWSLHD Primary & Community Health provides community-based services to improve health and wellbeing across South Western Sydney. Services include prevention, early intervention, assessment, treatment, health maintenance and continuing care. The team supports diverse populations and offers specialised programs for children, young people, older adults and at-risk communities. The district employs over 800 staff including Aboriginal Health Workers, nurses, doctors and allied health professionals.

How To Apply

  • A Social Work degree eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Completion of a four-year sequence of accredited undergraduate study in psychology (or equivalent completed overseas).
  • Demonstrated experience prioritising work and managing stressful situations.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team and to build partnerships with local agencies.
  • Understanding and commitment to quality processes and the application of evidence-based practice within counselling.
  • Knowledge and experience in providing counselling, group work and/or casework to adults, children, young people and/or families, including parenting issues.
  • Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). If holding a C class license from another state, you must obtain a NSW C class license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
