Overview

Ausgrid is seeking a BESS Engineering & Operations Manager to lead technical commissioning and operations & maintenance (O&M) activities for BESS assets within the Ausgrid network and for external commercial clients. This role involves establishing a high-performing technical team, developing work practices, procedures, and systems for commissioning and maintenance of grid-scale energy storage solutions.

Base pay and location

A$200,819.00/yr base salary. Permanent role with additional benefits including superannuation, engineering allowance, and bonus potential. Sydney or Newcastle CBD options; monthly day off.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and lead a team of para-professional and technical field staff responsible for commissioning and O&M activities.
  • Oversee safe and effective commissioning and day-to-day operation of BESS assets deployed across the Ausgrid network and in the external commercial market.
  • Drive operational excellence, technical performance, and asset reliability from energisation through end-of-life.
  • Collaborate with the Asset Performance Manager, internal Engineering Design and Delivery teams, and Network Operations to ensure seamless transition from project delivery to ongoing commissioning and operations.
  • Influence industry-leading practices in grid-scale storage and capture learnings to enhance internal capabilities and future opportunities.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in engineering management or O&M leadership roles.
  • Experience establishing or scaling teams and operational systems.
  • Strong knowledge of commissioning and O&M for electrical infrastructure.
  • Passion for renewable energy, innovation, and asset performance.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and commercial acumen.
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation, and time management skills.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
