About the team & role The Small Business Experience team is responsible for Xero's main dashboard and navigation, as well as our Search and Contacts experiences. In this role, you will primarily contribute to the discovery, design, and delivery of new dashboard experiences, while also participating in other initiatives within the team and across our product and design organization. The Small Business Experience product team is located across Australia and New Zealand, and we encourage close collaboration among product managers, engineers, and designers. Your work will help improve our core product experience for every Xero user.

What you'll do:

  • Design practice and thinking: Contribute to the Product Design vision by delivering consistent, high-quality designs. Advocate for design value and collaboration, conduct research to understand context and trends, define problems, and create frameworks (wireframes, visual designs) to articulate solutions. Explore future concepts, develop phased approaches considering our design system and constraints, prototype ideas, collaborate for feedback, and partner with other designers for cohesive experiences. Prioritize accessibility and develop smart interfaces, effectively communicating your work with cross-functional peers across product and engineering.
    • Design research and testing: Identify opportunities for research, plan and conduct studies relevant to your product area, participate in user research to understand customer goals and challenges, analyze findings, and join user testing sessions with research teams.
      • Build strong cross-functional relationships: Develop influence and strong relationships across teams. Participate in cross-functional conversations, collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to align user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility, and work alongside development teams during sprints to ensure the design vision is realized effectively and troubleshoot issues.

What you'll bring with you:

  • Experience working in a product-led environment is favorable.
    • Understanding of building and iterating products or experiences based on usage patterns and user feedback.
      • A portfolio demonstrating high-quality design work, improving user experience, and contributing to business outcomes.
        • Skills and experience across the design process, from uncovering customer needs and pain points to executing elegant interfaces.
