Our Mission

Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service Inc. (CRDVS) aims to use its specialist knowledge and skills to prevent domestic and family violence in the community and empower those affected by it.

CRDVS's vision is "Making a difference – bringing domestic and family violence to an end". We seek to do this by providing a confidential, comprehensive, and client-centred quality service to all vulnerable clients free of charge. CRDVS at all times strives to uphold high levels of professionalism and accountability.

How You'll Make a Difference

CRDVS is looking for a part-time Child and Youth Worker (Embedded YETI Worker) based in Cairns, QLD, working 60 hours per fortnight (0.8 FTE).

This position is embedded at Youth Empowered Towards Independence (YETI), a youth-specific community service. In this role, you'll engage directly with young people who may not otherwise access traditional domestic violence supports — offering them trauma-informed intervention, crisis response, and a safe space.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing crisis intervention, safety planning, and case management for young people experiencing domestic and family violence who are at risk but may not seek traditional DV services
  • Offering trauma-informed emotional support and counselling to young people with complex needs
  • Advocating for young people in relation to legal, housing, and safety concerns
  • Collaborating with YETI and key stakeholders to maintain service integration and professional boundaries
  • Maintaining accurate client records, case notes, and reports in accordance with CRDVS policies and funding requirements

This is a fixed-term contract through to 31 December 2025, with potential for extension based on funding and organisational movement.

What You'll Bring to the Team

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work, Community Services, or a related discipline, and 1–2 years experience working with young people in a DFV or trauma-informed context.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Additional qualifications or training in domestic and family violence (DV), trauma-informed care, or crisis intervention
  • A strong understanding of youth trauma and developmental stages
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention strategies and trauma-informed practice
  • A comprehensive understanding of gendered violence and its specific impact on young people
  • Experience working with high-risk or marginalised youth, including Indigenous young people
  • High-level interpersonal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently, build rapport quickly, and remain calm under pressure
  • Experience working in embedded or cross-organisational settings is beneficial

As our ideal candidate, you will be resilient, adaptable, and passionate about working with youth.

You'll bring a non-judgemental, strengths-based approach, paired with emotional intelligence and the capacity to engage young people who may be in crisis or reluctant to engage in formal support systems.

This is an exceptional opportunity to be a vital connection point for vulnerable youth, providing safety, hope, and genuine impact.

Please Note: All applicants must hold (or obtain) a current C Class driver's licence, a Working With Children Card and a formal police criminal history check.

Be Rewarded

Compensation based on skills and experience aligns with SCHADS Level 5, offering a competitive annual salary of $100,000 - $104,500 (pro rata for 0.8 FTE), and a host of excellent benefits including:

  • 12% Superannuation (as of July 2025)
  • Salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 p.a. to increase take-home pay
  • Flexible working hours, 0.8 FTE with no after-hours required
  • Additional leave loading
  • Join a team committed to equity, safety, and empowerment
  • A supportive and collaborative work environment across CRDVS and YETI
  • Opportunities for role extension, internal mobility, or transition to other CRDVS services (subject to funding and team movement)
  • Relocation assistance considered for the right candidate

This is a rare chance to work in a deeply community-connected, therapeutic role, embedded in a youth-specific organisation while supported by a leading DFV specialist team.
