Position Overview
Carbal is seeking an experienced candidate to provide exceptional care and support for some of our most vulnerable people in their homes and in the community. If you are keen to learn, have a demonstrated skillset in mental health or support work, like to help people and are looking for a challenging, yet rewarding workplace, then we would like to meet you. This position will be based on site at our Toowoomba programs office.
Be part of a multidisciplinary team to provider culturally appropriate and safe services designed to holistically meet the mental health and wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
Identify the different levels and types of intensity of the mental health needs of your clients to facilitate healing and improve their quality of life
Ensure activities are supported by clinical evidence and/or proven to be effective for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
Work one-on-one with community members in gaining access to the supports they need, ensuring appropriate referral pathways are identified
Work closely with GPs, Midwives, Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers, other health professionals
Build and maintain respectful and meaningful community relationships
Contribute to the maintenance of relevant data, records and statistics
Increase access to culturally safe and clinically appropriate mental health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Requirements:
You will have considerable experience in working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a clear understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture
You will have a demonstrated understanding of the health and social issues found in our Indigenous Communities
Experience in working with vulnerable community members
Be driven, motivated and have a passion to assist community members to foster independence and resilience and achieve their goals
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with patients with a caring attitude
The ability to work under supervision and independently and a thirst to learn
Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
You must have an Open C Class driver license and possess a Blue Card and be willing to undergo a Police Check
You will have a demonstrated ability to work as part of team
A IV in Mental Health and/or Certificate III or higher in Community Services
Certificate in Mental Health First Aid
Previous experience working in the Not-For-Profit sector
Have an understanding of the the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Mental Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing 2017-2023
