Do work that matters The Behavioural Science Centre of Excellence is responsible for bringing the latest behavioural science insights and research methods into the CBA Group, and maximising the impact of these insights through rigorous empirical methods. Our team provides a supportive environment to grow as a behavioural science researcher and practitioner. Our work spans across the Group, providing opportunities to work alongside industry-leading User Experience, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Strategy teams.

In this role you will be responsible for applying behavioural science to improve everyday financial decisions. You will be responsible for supporting the Group in delivering evidence-based experiences to improve financial decisions, experiences, and outcomes for millions of customers. As the senior behavioural scientist, you are the team's most technical advisor, having the ability to teach and improve the way we approach our empirical toolkit and analysis. This role will report to the Chapter Lead for our Applied Behavioural Science chapter and work closely with other leads from our research unit. The team sits within the Data & Analytics Practice, as part of our Technology Business Unit. The team's focus is Human-Centered AI, and you will also work closely with our Customer, Digital and AI teams in our Retail Banking Business Unit.

On any given week, in this role you will

  • Identify opportunities where behavioural science can help improve everyday financial decisions.
  • Influence senior leaders across the group to adopt Behavioural Science principles and techniques within their cross functional teams to improve decision making processes and strategic initiative outcomes.
  • Buddy with behavioural scientists across the team, collaborate to curate a cohort of high performing behavioural scientists, and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration. Through this, you will help the team achieve our organisational purpose and continue building a world class Behavioural Science team.
  • Design and execute large-scale randomised controlled trials. Providing the team with guidance on advanced research methodologies, ensuring robust experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Specifically tying results back to the business objectives.
  • Producing and presenting rigorous research outputs. This includes having a strong statistics background, being able to analysis both lab, field, and natural experiments across large datasets.
  • Representing the organisation at industry conferences and events, contributing to the advancement of behavioural science across different contexts.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for business units across the CBA Group
  • Communicating scientific insights and project outputs to executive leaders and the wider financial services industry

We are interested to hear from you if you have
  • Strong familiarity with behavioural science / economics literature. Candidates having worked in Human Centred AI teams across the world will be highly favourable and encouraged to apply.
  • Strong leadership across peers and interpersonal skills
  • Strong ability to showcase strategic thinking – translating insights into impact.
  • Technical understanding of empirical methods used in social sciences (e.g. statistics; econometrics; RCTs)
  • Professional experience (financial services or management consulting experience is a plus)
  • Proven track record of delivery, highlighting the role you played as an individual
  • Project management experience (experience supporting research projects preferred)
  • Proven ability to communicate scientific insights clearly and concisely to industry audiences
  • Proven ability to problem solve in a complex large scale organisation
  • Proven ability to work in cross functional teams, highlighting an ability to influence and showcase how behavioural science was leveraged with multiple toolkits at the table
  • Demonstrated ability to use statistical programming software (R or Python preferred).
Qualification
  • Extensive professional experience with Undergraduate or Masters level credential in a behavioural or social science discipline (e.g. psychology, cognitive science, economics, computational social science).
  • Alternatively, some professional experience with Masters or Doctoral level credential in behavioural and economic science (e.g. psychology, cognitive science, economics, computational social science, neuroscience)
  • Experience in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence is highly preferred for this candidate
