Overview

Red Cross's Delivered Meals program supports older and vulnerable people by delivering meals and providing a friendly check-in. Volunteers hand-deliver meals and contribute to social connection with recipients.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver meals to community recipients using your own vehicle.
  • Provide a friendly check-in during weekday deliveries.
  • Ensure safe handling of meal packs and assist with loading/unloading as needed.
  • Maintain privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of clients.
  • Utilise appropriate digital systems and complete relevant documentation of interactions.
  • Participate in mandatory learning and development for the aged and community care sector.
Availability and Time Commitment

Availability: Mornings/Afternoons

Time involved: 1–3 hours per week

  • Ongoing long-term position
  • Weekdays
  • Must be able to commit to at least one shift per week on a regular basis

  • Burnie - Mon–Fri 9:00am–12:00pm
  • Queenstown - Mon–Fri 10:30am–12:30pm
  • Campbell Town - Mon–Fri 11:30am–1:00pm
  • George Town - Mon–Fri 12:00pm–1:30pm
  • Bridport - Mon/Wed 10:30am–11:30am
  • Evandale - Tue/Thu 10:00am–12:00pm
  • Scottsdale - Mon–Fri 12:00pm–1:30pm
Key Requirements and Commitment
  • Access to your own vehicle (partial fuel reimbursements provided) to deliver meals.
  • Strong conversational skills and a respectful, inclusive approach.
  • Ability to lift and carry meal packs up to 15 kg and safely load/unload from your vehicle.
  • Respect client privacy, rights, and dignity; maintain confidentiality.
  • Utilise digital systems and follow established work practices relevant to the program.
  • Record timely documentation of interactions with clients.
  • Maintain professional boundaries to safeguard client and volunteer well-being.
  • Participate in mandatory learning and development to stay up-to-date in aged and community care.
  • Uphold the Aged Care Code of Conduct and any updates.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and inclusivity in interactions.
Impact

As a Red Cross Delivered Meals volunteer, you will help reduce loneliness and support clients in living independently, while gaining insight into Australia's diverse communities and making a difference in people's lives.

Application Requirements
  • National Police Check (arranged through Red Cross).
  • Current full Australian driver's licence with a clean driving record.
  • Statutory Declaration if you have been a citizen or permanent resident of a country other than Australia after turning 16.
