You will be responsible for providing detailed designs, developing specifications and interfacing with other disciplines, construction, commissioning, management and clients on design issues. The Secondary Design Engineer will build and maintain strong relationships with the inhouse construction teams and our client to effectively deliver to client expectations. This role sits within the Power Utilities teams based in Sydney and involves solving complex problems throughout the project lifecycle across all known aspects of secondary system design.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct professional engineering work on relevant aspects of EHV/HV Secondary Systems – strategic planning and conceptual design (Protection, SCADA, Communications, Data Networks, etc.).
  • Provide detailed design services in areas including Protection Detailed Design (logic/setting files), Primary/Secondary Systems equipment specification and procurement (CT, VT, CB, TFMR, etc.), Protection & Control detail schematics and integration, Grid metering, Power quality and high-speed monitoring installations, load flow, fault level and dynamic studies, network/data network architecture and configuration, control system detailed design and configuration (EMS and Substation Automation), and communications systems.
  • Design and specify general AC/DC systems and distribution, power generation (including large-scale solar, wind and battery storage), and system integration considerations.
  • Check design work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
  • Provide technical support to Business Development, Tendering and Operations as required.
  • Assist with site commissioning.
Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • At least 3 years' experience in design, integration & coordination, installation & commissioning of electrical systems and services for high voltage power systems.
  • Understanding and knowledge of secondary system design from concept development through to detailed design; experience in design-for-construction environment or utility/engineering consultancy design.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Power System Protection and Automation software packages, equipment suppliers and products.
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement of performance, deliverables and efficiencies.
  • Positive approach to safety.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and excellent relationship-building, problem-solving, commercial and negotiation skills.
