Senior Policy and Projects Officer

We are seeking a Senior Policy and Projects Officer to provide a critical role within Justice Health.

About The Business Unit

Justice Health's objective is to improve the health of adult and youth offenders in Victorian custodial settings.

As a business unit of Corrections and Justice Services within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Justice Health oversees the delivery of health, mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) services delivered by contracted service providers in Victoria's adult and youth justice facilities.

Justice Health works in partnership with the Aboriginal community, under the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement Burra Lotjpa Dunguludja, to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities through active participation in the Aboriginal Justice Forum and associated Collaborative Working Groups.

About The Job
  • The Senior Policy and Project Officer will have a significant role in producing key written materials, such as policy and procedure documents, briefs, presentations, coronial submissions and responses to reports and reviews.
  • They will also be pivotal in coordination activities across Justice Health.
  • The Senior Policy and Project Officer will lead exciting reform projects, as well as governance and continuous improvement activities, which will ensure health service delivery in prison and Youth Justice custodial environments delivers effective health outcomes, aligns with legislative requirements and supports government policy priorities.
About You
  • You will be an organised policy and project professional, ideally with a background in health, AOD or justice.
  • You will thrive in a busy environment and be highly motivated to support a range of activities that contribute to the improvement of custodial health services.
Key Responsibilities
  • Creating a range of policy documents, such as advice, reports, briefs, presentations and correspondence on complex and sensitive matters relating to the health and wellbeing of individuals and young people in custody.
  • Engaging with critical internal and external stakeholders in relation to complex issues and change agendas.
  • Supporting Justice Health's response to inquiries, commissions and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications
  • A suitable tertiary qualification or relevant experience in project management, health, or criminal justice would be well regarded.
