We are seeking a talented and versatile Full Stack Developer, based in Melbourne to join our growing team and help build Alumly's in-house platform and mobile applications. This role will work across the full development stack, with a focus on PHP (Laravel), MySQL database design, and mobile app development.

Alumly is building Australia\'s first "Earn While You Learn" platform based on the micro-internship model, to help students build professional networks early and develop durable skills through paid gigs. By reducing hiring costs and risks for companies and increasing the career relevance of courses offered by tertiary institutions, Alumly aims to create meaningful connections between students and the professional world.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Alumly's in-house web platform using PHP (Laravel framework)
• Design, implement, and optimize MySQL database schemas to ensure performance and scalability
• Contribute to mobile application development (native or cross-platform)
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver features end-to-end
• Implement and integrate APIs, ensuring reliable data flow across systems
• Write unit tests and participate in code reviews to ensure code quality
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application and infrastructure issues
• Support continuous improvement of the development process, tools, and workflows

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in full stack or backend software development
• Strong proficiency in PHP and Laravel framework
• Demonstrated experience with MySQL database schema design and optimization
• Demonstrated experience in native mobile app development, iOS development using Swift and Android development using Kotlin. Expertise using cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter or React Native is a plus.
• Proficiency with Git (GitHub or Bitbucket) and modern software collaboration tools
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, MVC architecture, and secure coding practices
• Ability to work in an Agile development environment and meet tight delivery commitments
• Experience AWS cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines (Azure and GCP a plus)
• Familiarity with Docker or other containerization tools
• Knowledge of frontend frameworks (Vue.js, React) for building rich user interfaces
• Exposure to automated testing frameworks and QA best practices

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience with Vector databases, in particular Chroma, or alternative (such as PostgreSOL+ Pgvector) to develop AI applications / software functions.
• Experience with AWS Bedrock for building and integrating AI/ML models.
• Experience building AI applications, in particular using Anthropic LLMs
• Creative problem-solving skills, resourcefulness and working in a lean startup environment
• Strong sense of ownership, a can-do attitude and a focus on business outcomes
• Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
• Growth mindset with a passion for learning and adopting new technologies and ways of working. A demonstrated ability to use AI tools to enhance productivity both for yourself and for your team is big plus (eg. Cursor, Replit, Lovable, etc)
• Takes pride in delivering high-quality software, well thought out solutions and an attention to detail
