Business Analyst – Federal Government Location: Canberra, ACT

Clearance: Australian Citizenship mandatory, Baseline Security Clearance required
Contract Length: 12 Months + 12-Month Extension Option
Rate: Competitive – Based on Experience

Are you a skilled Business Analyst with a background in complex ICT environments? We're seeking an experienced professional to support high-impact initiatives across a large federal government department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage business analysis activities within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Conduct scoping, requirements definition, and prioritisation for complex initiatives.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders to gather input, gain agreement, and resolve competing priorities.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into functional requirements and deliverables, including process flows, models, and specifications.
  • Analyse business processes and identify areas for improvement, automation, or transformation.
  • Support the design and documentation of Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions including RBAC and privileged access management.
  • Provide input into transition plans, feasibility assessments, and business cases.
  • Ensure effective documentation and knowledge transfer in accordance with departmental policies.
Key Deliverables:
  • Process maps and Business Requirements Specifications (BRS)
  • Functional and Technical Specifications
  • Transition and Implementation Plans
  • Business Cases with Risk and Cost-Benefit Analysis
  • Status and Progress Reports
Essential Criteria (SFIA Levels 4 & 5):
  • Business Modelling – Advanced modelling across complex programs.
  • Business Process Improvement – Identifying and implementing efficiency gains.
  • Business Situation Analysis – Solving complex, ambiguous problems.
  • Consultancy – Providing expert analysis and problem resolution.
  • Feasibility Assessment – Evaluating options and supporting business cases.
  • Requirements Definition & Management – Planning and managing the lifecycle of business requirements.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience advising on methods and tools in line with standards.
  • Proven capability in providing specialist advice within ICT environments.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management experience across varied stakeholder groups.
