Principal Tailings Engineer

Overview

Geosyntec is growing in Australia. We now have over 110 practitioners across the country, with offices in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast. In 2022, Red Earth Engineering joined the Geosyntec family of companies, bringing with them some of the very best expertise in the mine tailings and water dam sectors.

We are now the tailings and geotechnical consultant of choice for several major mining companies with operations in Australia. As an example of our commitment to leading the industry in innovation and technical excellence, we have recently announced the establishment of an advanced testing facility led by Dr. David Reid. Our expertise, combined with Geosyntec's world-class reputation in hydrogeology, geochemistry, geotechnical engineering, seismicity and risk allows us to assist our client in meeting their engineering challenges and better understanding their risk.

We have an opportunity available for a Principal Tailings Engineer to join our Perth, Brisbane or Melbourne office. This position is well-suited for a talented, experienced individual who is interested in contributing to and managing innovative and challenging projects including several projects where we are currently the Engineer of Record.

Responsibilities

• Civil/Geotechnical/Tailings dam design
• Geotechnical analyses using various software packages
• Understanding of tailing deposition modelling (Muk3D)
• Geotechnical and environmental site characterisation
• Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems
• Project/task management and proposal preparation support
• Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications
• Client development

Education and Licensure

• Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field (required)
• Advanced degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field (preferred)
• Professional registration (preferred but not essential)
• Engineer of Record (EoR) (required)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

• At least 8 years (10+ preferred) of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent
• Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software
• Knowledge of numerical modeling tools (preferred)
• Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Field work and overnight travel may be required
• Valid Australian driver's license and satisfactory driving record for business travel
