Research Associate – Physical Oceanographer (Southern Ocean Circulation)
Australian Antarctic Program Partnership
- Full time, fixed term opportunity for three (3) years
- Based in Hobart, IMAS Building Salamanca
The AAPP brings together government and non-government entities to deliver and lead a significant part of the national Antarctic science program. The partnership is led by the University of Tasmania (UTAS), and includes the Australian Antarctic Division, CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere, Geoscience Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology, the Tasmanian State Government and Australia's Integrated Marine Observing System.
The Opportunity The Research Associate – Physical Oceanographer (Southern Ocean Circulation) will contribute to the Australian Antarctic Program Partnership (AAPP) by investigating the sensitivity of the Southern Ocean circulation to changes in forcing, both natural and anthropogenic. For this position, we are particularly interested in candidates with a passion for innovative analyses of ocean observations, to complement existing efforts in idealised and realistic numerical simulations.
Key Accountabilities:
- Make an effective and sustained contribution to the AAPP strategic objectives.
- Undertake high-quality research of national and international standing, publish research findings, contribute to supervision of students and seek funding.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links with AAPP partners and collaborators.
Your Application
To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of science.
- Excellent understanding of ocean dynamics and the ocean's role in climate.
- High level quantitative skills.
- A good record of and commitment to research that has achieved national and international recognition as demonstrated by a record of quality publications and presentations.
- Ability to build and maintain effective and productive links, nationally and internationally.
Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $133,842 comprising base salary within the range of $98,537 to $114,395 plus 17% superannuation.
