School psychologists provide counselling and psychological assessment of students to complement and enhance teachers' work, strengthen student learning and wellbeing outcomes, and help families understand and manage their children's learning and mental health needs. This is a collegiate role offering professional development opportunities and the ability to impact the lives of children and young people.

Continuing professional development is available. The NSW Department of Education will support registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Benefits include various leave types, leave loading, travel allowances, health and wellbeing programs such as Fitness Passport, and indemnity insurance coverage while working in schools.
