Its work spans waterway and coastal health, biodiversity, pest and weed control, sustainable agriculture, and ecosystem restoration—driving resilient outcomes where community, environment and economy can thrive together.

The Role

The Natural Resource Management (NRM) Market Analyst, will play a critical role in the organisation's strategic growth by identifying potential industry and business partners, understanding their drivers, and aligning these with both community goals and Reef Catchments' values and objectives. The role will work closely with the CEO to identify emerging opportunities, gaps, and successful initiatives and work with the Reef Catchments team to develop market-aligned proposals and on-ground solutions to attract ongoing funding with the sole purpose of improving the condition of the region's natural assets

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Market Research & Strategy: Lead analysis of industries, government priorities, and emerging NRM markets to identify opportunities and align partnerships with Reef Catchments' goals.
  • Partner & Stakeholder Engagement: Identify and assess potential partners, test investment interest, and engage stakeholders to enable co-investment.
  • Project & Proposal Development: Work with internal teams to shape market-aligned project concepts and proposals that attract innovative funding.
  • Organisational Positioning: Provide strategic insights, contribute to briefings, and support communications that promote Reef Catchments' impact and direction.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintain systems to track market trends, policy changes, and funding opportunities.
  • Team Collaboration: Support cross-team coordination, share knowledge, and help drive collective outcomes.

Required Skills and Proficiencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting comprehensive stakeholder analysis, market research and economic assessments to evaluate project feasibility, identify emerging trends, and assess market readiness.
  • Skilled at translating insights into strategic recommendations that align opportunities with organisational priorities within the environmental and NRM sectors.
  • High-level understanding of the region's industries, stakeholder landscape, and NRM challenges, with a demonstrated understanding of the priorities, values, and concerns of landholders, Traditional Owners, and key economic and community sectors.
  • Understanding of Queensland and Australian policy frameworks relating to NRM, the environment, or natural capital.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical insights into clear strategic recommendations and persuasive arguments that open opportunities and drive engagement.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and build strong, respectful relationships across diverse teams and external stakeholders, including landholders and Traditional Owners, demonstrating cultural sensitivity, open communication, and a cooperative approach.
  • Proven ability to manage deadlines and work autonomously in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment.
  • Qualifications or proven experience in environmental economics, NRM, business, or a related field.
  • Desirable: Experience working in or with not-for-profit, Indigenous, or community-based organisations.
