What you'll doThe Network Engineer provides technical support to our Tier 1 Service Provider customers in all aspects of the operation of their network. This includes participation in implementation, testing, and troubleshooting activities as well as network configuration, debugging, and optimization. As a member of the Global Connectivity team, you will work with the customer to understand their problems, reproduce them in the lab, and drive them to resolution. Your ability to troubleshoot and tune component hardware and software for secure and efficient network operation will be invaluable. Your skills in scripting, traffic generator setup and operation, and use of network tools are critical in the creation of test environments used to resolve customer issues. Your applied knowledge of Network protocols such as MPLS, VPN, BGP, VLAN, IS-IS, and Network-based Security practices are essential skills for this role.
The day-to-dayYou will lead teams in the troubleshooting of the most complex data network and hardware problems. You will be empowered to research technological advancements and evaluate complex data networking technologies to understand their potential and to recommend future direction.
This role will work locally in the APAC Engineering team and will be a hosted member of the Global Connectivity team.
What you'll need- 5+ years of hands-on experience in implementing and troubleshooting complex IP/MPLS, Network routing, Network switching, Datacenter technologies in a Service Provider environment.
- 3+ years' experience with scripting (Python, Bash, TCL, expect, etc.).
- Some experience with AI or Machine Learning an advantage.
- High-level knowledge of Network hardware and software.
- Experience in creating and building test environments, including test plans and procedures.
- Ability to understand end-to-end systems and troubleshoot issues.
- Ability to comprehend complex system architectures and find creative approaches to testing them.
- Experience with Traffic Generation tools setup and operation (including Spirent, IXIA or similar tools).
- Manage network incidents by facilitating the acknowledgement, triage and restoration of network functionality and performance.
- Travel to field sites to implement, support and maintain optical network systems.
- Support of networking systems operated and/or supported by Viasat outside of normal working hours as part of established on-call rosters.
- In-depth knowledge of Networking (switches, routers, firewalls).
- Network automation and Python experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience.
- Up to 25% travel.
- Must be a permanent resident of Australia.
- Basic understanding of RF measurement techniques.
