Where you'll be working
The Emergency Department Senior RAID Social Work position is based Westmead Hospital and is responsible for providing a high standard of care to patients and families attending the Emergency Department. You will be working in a supportive department with a positive team culture which values professional, personal and career development.

Minutes from Parramatta CBD, the local area is home to heritage sites, beautiful parks and waterways. Currently undergoing a $1.1 billion redevelopment program, Westmead Hospital, together with its partners, will be one of the largest health, education, research and training precincts in Australia.

What you'll be doing
This role operates within a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy to provide early assessment and intervention with a focus on safe and supported discharge from ED where possible or develop clinical recommendations and care plan for those patients requiring a ward admission.

The position is based in the Critical Care and Surgery Team at Westmead. This is a team of 11 social workers providing coverage to the areas of Intensive Care, Emergency Department, Trauma, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Specialty Surgery, Huntingtons Disease and Renal Services. The team also includes the District Post Mortem Liaison Officer position.

This is a full time position to be worked over 4 x 10 shifts. As the position is part of a service that provides 7-day coverage, weekend work is included in this role and would be required to work one weekend shift every week (roster is likely to be Wednesday – Saturday). Whilst allocated to the RAID-ED clinical area, there are opportunities to broaden your skill development as part of team cover and through After Hours Crisis On Call work.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualification: Tertiary qualification in Social work
  • Registration: Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW)

Selection Criteria:

Significant clinical experience in Social work, with substantial experience working in the emergency department and/or as a primary contact practitioner treating challenging patients with chronic and complex conditions.Well-developed time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing skills and high level computer literacy.Demonstrated understanding of issues associated with working with culturally and linguistically diverse client groups.Demonstrated experience in the development of clinical social work policies and procedures and/or guidelines.Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levelsAbility to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staffAbility to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical natureDemonstrated experience in supervision and teaching including clinical supervision and teaching of undergraduate/graduate entry level students
