What's the job?

As a Governance and Assurance Lead for our travel insurance business, this critical role will support the organisation's regulatory compliance, risk management, and governance frameworks. The role will oversee governance processes and conduct activities to drive a compliance-first culture across the business.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with APRA, ASIC, and ACCC regulations, as well as the General Insurance Code of Practice (GICOP).
• Maintain governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to meet regulatory obligations, including ensuring operational teams are prepared for any new legislative changes and requirements.
• Oversee risk and assurance activities within business operations, ensuring effective internal controls are in place to mitigate financial, operational, and reputational risks through regular reviews.
• Provide expert guidance to operational teams on regulatory risks, control effectiveness, and compliance best practices, including monitoring and reporting on regulatory breaches, risk incidents and compliance trends.
• Act as a trusted advisor by collaborating with senior leadership, risk, compliance, and operational teams, providing strategic governance and assurance support, including delivery of training.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Brisbane.

Qualifications and experience

• Proven experience in governance, risk, compliance, or assurance within the Australian general insurance industry, ideally with exposure to travel insurance.
• In-depth knowledge of ASIC Regulatory Guides, APRA Prudential Standards, ACCC consumer protection laws, and the General Insurance Code of Practice (GICOP).
• Experience supporting Line 1 (Business Operations) and Line 2 (Risk & Compliance) functions.
• Strong track record in developing and implementing governance frameworks, risk controls, and assurance activities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead regulatory compliance programs, assurance reviews, and risk-based decision-making.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and leadership skills, with experience influencing compliance culture within an organisation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate risk.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing regulatory reports and submissions.
