Education Assistant – Special Needs role at Department of Education, Western Australia. About Armadale Senior High SchoolArmadale Senior High School (SHS) is a proud Independent Public School located just under 30 kilometres south of Perth. The school services a diverse student population and offers enriched pathways including the Aspire program, Specialist Programs in Visual Arts and Technologies, and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses with industry links.
Role and responsibilitiesEducation Assistants – Special Needs work to improve student outcomes by developing appropriate educational programs for diverse learning needs. They assist students in connecting with learning content, implement explicit teaching strategies, differentiate instruction for accessibility, and assess and report on student progress. They use interpersonal skills to provide feedback to teaching staff and support targeted learning interventions.
Programs and environmentSuitable applicants will join the Targeted Teaching learning area and support the school's Strive program for literacy and numeracy intervention, which is based on evidence-based and direct instruction principles. Education Assistants play an instrumental role in delivering these group interventions and are encouraged to apply if you have experience improving literacy and numeracy skills.
Qualifications and suitabilityApplicants should be committed to building strong relationships with staff and students, have professional knowledge in supporting students with additional learning needs, promote positive student engagement and behaviour, and work to develop, implement and evaluate targeted learning support plans.
Eligibility- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

- A four-page statement addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF, including:
- Demonstrated good written and oral communication with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work as part of a team evaluating educational programs.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to support delivery and development of effective education programs and provide feedback to staff.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with educational programs, including potential occupational and/or physiotherapy programs as required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students.
- Demonstrated ability to support general health and well-being of students.
