Principal and Senior Structural Engineer

Location: Brisbane/Perth

The company: EPCM Engineering Consultancy

The Company

An EPCM engineering consultancy with a portfolio of resource mining projects worldwide. Due to an upcoming major project, they are seeking a Principal Structural Engineer and a Senior Structural Engineer to join the team.

The Role

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, able to multitask, and a demonstrated team player. You will be part of the design team, assisting with various scopes on process plants and non-process infrastructure.

This is an initial 12-month contracting opportunity with potential for extension due to the project's size.

Responsibilities for Principal
  • Review and approve structural engineering deliverables including drawings, specifications, and reports (e.g., processing plants, conveyors, crushers, tunnels).
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior and junior engineers.
  • Oversee structural design standards, ensuring compliance with mining regulations and safety codes.
  • Ensure integration of structural designs with other disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical).
  • Approve complex structural designs and calculations, especially for critical load-bearing structures.
  • Manage risk assessments and structural integrity reviews for high-impact assets.
  • Represent the structural discipline in client meetings, regulatory reviews, and internal governance boards.
Responsibilities for Senior
  • Develop detailed structural designs for mining infrastructure (e.g., foundations, retaining walls, steel structures).
  • Perform structural analysis using software such as SpaceGass, Strand7, STADD.Pro, or ANSYS.
  • Prepare design documentation, calculations, and construction drawings.
  • Conduct site inspections and structural assessments during construction and operational phases.
  • Coordinate with drafting teams to ensure accurate and buildable designs.
  • Ensure designs meet safety, environmental, and operational standards.
What you'll need to succeed
  • Strong knowledge of design principles.
  • Proven experience working on mining projects, ideally on Gold/Copper.
  • Based in Brisbane or Perth with Australian full work rights.
