Our Clerkship Program

We offer a structured four-week program combining hands-on experience, training, coaching, and observation. During this period, you will become a central member of your team, working directly with our partners and clients.

All clerks have the opportunity to undertake meaningful work for real clients, including:

  • Attending client meetings
  • Observing court proceedings
  • Conducting legal research
  • Developing technical skills such as drafting, due diligence, and disclosure
  • Participating in team meetings, training, and continuing legal education programs

You will be supported by a supervising partner, their team, and a mentor. Our well-resourced corporate services team will also assist you throughout the program.

Clerks are encouraged to participate in firm social events—such as Friday night drinks, the end-of-year party, and other social and sporting activities—to ensure you gain valuable experience while having fun.

Students who complete a clerkship with us will be considered for a position in our next Graduate Program, starting in 2027. This 12-month program includes rotations across different practice areas to help you identify the area of law that best suits you.

The 2025/26 Thomson Geer Melbourne Summer Clerkship will consist of two four-week programs: the first from late November to mid-December 2025, and the second from mid-January to mid-February 2026.
