Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial, and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunals, Judicial College, and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the 'Courts Group'.

Our people enable the Courts Group to deliver on each jurisdiction's strategic priorities while pursuing interconnected strategic opportunities that benefit the broader community.

The Supreme Court of Victoria, the highest court in the state, comprises the Court of Appeal and the Trial Division, handling major criminal and civil matters and appeals from lower courts.

Funds in Court (FIC) is an Office of the Supreme Court of Victoria that administers funds held in Court and assets purchased from them for people with disabilities.

FIC supports the Senior Master, an Associate Judge of the Supreme Court, in managing funds and assisting over 7,000 clients, who are individuals with their funds held in Court.

The Office operates in accordance with the law and in the best interests of beneficiaries.

About the Role

The Client Services Officer (CSO) is part of the Client Services Team and serves as the primary contact for clients at Funds in Court. The CSO interacts with persons under 'legal disability', including their carers, and is responsible for submitting requests to access funds for various purposes, including daily expenses, larger transactions, or purchases like houses and vehicles, for judicial approval.

The role involves balancing and negotiating client requests with judicial requirements, providing quality customer service in a high-volume, challenging environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Managing a client portfolio with awards up to several million dollars, ensuring efficient, timely, and effective funds administration, and providing informed advice on relevant legislation and procedures.
  2. Preparing comprehensive memoranda with recommendations for the Senior Master, Associate Judges, and the Judicial Registrar.
  3. Escalating serious client issues to senior team members and supporting team operations to improve service delivery.
  4. Conducting initial meetings with clients and stakeholders, both in-office and at clients' homes, and developing relationships with external agencies like VCAT and OPA.
  5. Maintaining accurate records in the Trust Management System (TMS) and meeting audit requirements.

About You

  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to funds in Court, including the Supreme Court Act 1986, Trustee Act 1958, Guardianship and Administration Act 2019, and the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.
  • Familiarity with the National Standards for Disability Services.
  • Ability to handle difficult conversations sensitively.
  • Active listening and professional communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
