Overview

Education Assistant - Special Needs at the Department of Education, Western Australia. Brookton District High School (DHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2025 and 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Brookton DHS is located in the Avon Valley, Noongar Country. The Role

Brookton DHS is seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join their team as Special Needs Education Assistants to support teachers working with students who have a variety of disabilities and learning needs. You will work under teacher direction to assist with education programs and help promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Suitable applicants will assist the teacher in delivering planned education programs to help students reach their full potential across academic, social, emotional and physical skills, including operation of computers and digital technologies.

Ideally, suitable applicants should possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to promote the school's values and priorities and build positive relationships with students. You should be passionate about creating positive futures for students.

Eligibility and Requirements

To work with us, you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.

    • A CV of up to two pages outlining your employment history and professional learning relevant to this position.
    • A two-page statement addressing the selection criteria as outlined in the attached JDF.
    • Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
    • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team in evaluating educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where implemented.
    • Demonstrated good organisational skills to assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs and provide feedback to professionals.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including occupational and/or physiotherapy programs if required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
