Principal Geologist

Location: Global

Role Overview

We are looking for a Principal Geologist to join our global Geosciences team working through one of our regional offices in Australia, Canada, South Africa or the United Kingdom. You will work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results to AMC clients.

The purpose of the role is to assist AMC clients gain greater insight into their project geology and enhance their orebody knowledge through the application of technical expertise and solutions. You will fill a key role within the geosciences team and work with other technical services within AMC to add client value.

AMC's geosciences team covers a broad spectrum of services creating a varied and interesting array of projects to work on. Services include geological modelling, Mineral Resource estimates, data analysis including geostatistics and QAQC reviews, technical and annual audits, mining studies, due diligence, metal balance and reconciliation audits, exploration advice and support, grade control development, and geometallurgy.

Salary

The salary package offered for this position will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

Skills And CompetenciesCore functions
  • Support the Geosciences team and collaborate with other AMC service lines.
  • Geological modelling.
  • Mineral Resource estimation and reporting.
  • Geostatistical analysis, variography, QA/QC data analysis.
  • Technical reviews and audits of client projects.
  • Preparation of proposals and reports.
  • Manage project schedules and budgets.
  • Identify, develop and sustain new business and client relationships.
Competencies
  • Practical operational/exploration/consulting experience and exposure to working on a wide range of commodities, primarily in critical, base and precious metals.
  • Practical drilling, sampling, and assaying experience for drilling programmes on mines and developing projects.
  • Current, strong practical knowledge in Mineral Resource estimation, geological modelling, and applied mining geology.
  • Practical, applied understanding of geostatistics, variography and applications to estimation processes.
  • Ability to apply a range of estimation methods (linear and non-linear) as appropriate to the styles of mineralization, commodities and mining methods.
  • Exposure to the various international reporting standards (JORC Code, CIM guidelines/NI 43-101, S-K 1300, SAMREC, CRIRSCO etc).
  • Mining and geostatistical software with preference for Datamine, Leapfrog, Isatis, Supervisor and Micromine (other software can be discussed and potentially accommodated).
  • Ability to show strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A continued effort to expand and learn.
  • Ability and willingness to act as a Competent/Qualified Person, as defined by the JORC Code and CIM Definition Standards, in at least one commodity.
  • Self-management and project skills for time, budgets, and collaboration--all with a clear purpose to deliver innovative, high quality, robust products and solutions to AMC clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and report writing skills.
  • Potential interest in due diligence and valuation projects.
  • Have a strong industry network. With an outgoing personality, we would like you to build on that network to generate work for both you and AMC.
  • Bring something new to the team – you will help AMC deliver innovative solutions to clients and contribute to knowledge sharing within AMC.
  • Demonstrated understanding, commitment to, and leadership in safety and equal employment opportunity principles.
Qualifications And Experience
  • A degree in Geology with any post-graduate qualifications well regarded.
  • A minimum of 8 years of practical experience as relevant to the responsibilities listed above. Ideally, it is envisaged that you will have at least 5 years of practical operational/exploration/consulting experience.
  • Membership to a recognized professional organization e.g. the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Australian Institute of Geoscientists or other similar industry recognized professional organization.
  • A valid drivers license, passport, and the ability to travel internationally as required.
  • Fluent in English – spoken and written. Secondary language skills, specifically Spanish, viewed favourably.
  • You must have working rights in the country you are employed in.
