The Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria's (VPRBV) is the independent regulator of veterinary practitioners in Victoria. Our role is to protect the public and promote animal health and welfare by regulating veterinary practitioners in Victoria. We register veterinary practitioners and oversee professional standards of conduct and service. This includes managing complaints and investigating concerns about practitioner conduct.

The Investigations Team plays a key role in this work, carrying out investigations and enforcement actions relating to veterinary practitioners.

We're looking for an investigator to join our Investigations Team. Responsibilities will include leading investigations into complaints, writing investigation reports, drafting allegations for hearings, and reasons for decision.

This is a unique opportunity for veterinarians interested in applying their clinical knowledge in a regulatory setting, or law professionals looking to apply their skills in a specialised regulatory environment.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Drafting a range of documents arising from administrative and enforcement decisions including investigation reports, outcome letters, briefing papers, allegations, and particulars for hearings and reasons for decision.
  • Supporting the VPRBV board and fellow team members in the interpretation and analysis of information as it relates to the Board's regulatory duties under the Act.
  • Identify, interpret, and apply relevant legislation throughout the investigation and compliance process.
  • Assist in preparing for and coordinating formal and informal hearings.

Knowledge and experience

While experience in regulation or enforcement is ideal, candidates with backgrounds in veterinary science or law are strongly encouraged to apply.

Essential skills:

  • Strong analytical and report writing abilities
  • Possession of a Diploma in Government (Investigations) or equivalent, or the ability and willingness to achieve this qualification within 12 months of engagement is essential.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency is required for this position
  • Must be eligible for baseline security clearance and willing to undergo police checks
