Senior Process Engineer

Rux Energy, a leading advanced materials startup, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Process Engineer to join our team. The role will join our manufacturing team and will be crucial in overseeing and making critical contributions to the scaling of our production of our nano-porous materials. The position requires experience in chemical engineering including the design, development, commissioning and operation of pilot and commercial scale plants.
The successful candidate will work within our manufacturing team and on the development of the process engineering design and development of our pilot and commercial scale plant. The role requires strong technical, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Plant Development:
- Work with our manufacturing and production teams on the process design and development of our pilot plant (up to 20 kgpd).
- Coordinate engineering activities including design, construction, safety, constructability and delivery of the project schedule.
- Interface with equipment suppliers for timely procurement.
- Supervise installation and commissioning of the equipment
- Review the performance of the pilot scale plant to inform the development of the larger scale plant
- Subsequently support the development of the commercial scale plant (200 to 2000 kgpd) for the manufacturing of our advanced materials.
Technical Expertise:
- Review technical data generated by R&D teams and extract valuable insights to guide decision-making and process development and scale-up.
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams, mass and energy balances, process and Instrumentation Diagrams and other technical drawings for the pilot plant
- Identify appropriate equipment, including specifications and costs.
- Contribute to safety studies including HAZID, HAZOP and other relevant technical studies as required for the project
- Develop process control systems for the larger scale plant
- Support site selection and the development of the commercial scale plant
Documentation:
- Prepare relevant engineering documents including process flow diagrams, process & instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances, equipment lists and other engineering drawings.
- Prepare high quality written reports on the development of the pilot plant, suitable for internal stakeholders and external clients.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience: A bachelors or higher degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field and at least 5-10 years of relevant industrial experience in manufacturing engineering or industrial engineering including design, commissioning and operation.
Technical Knowledge : Strong understanding of solid/liquid materials processing and experience developing process, flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams, mass and energy balances. Experience with sizing and costing of process equipment and generation of equipment lists and technical specifications.
Project Management: Experience with engineering project management in the design and construction of engineered equipment or manufacturing plant, use of project management tools and project management skills and experience in ensuring project deliveries against budget and schedule, and detailed reporting on progress to funding providers.
Analytical Skills : Proficient in data analysis and interpretation using statistical tools and software. Ability to draw meaningful insights from complex datasets and present them effectively. Prior experience with process modelling software such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS, and/or Ansys Fluent is valued.
Stakeholder Management: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. An ability to develop meaningful relationships with stakeholders including external contractors, team members and management.
Problem-solving Abilities : Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot process-related issues. Proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to propose and implement innovative solutions.
Safety Focus: Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a safe working environment. Experience with and ability to participate in HAZOP and HAZID analyses, identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
Adaptability : Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, techniques, and methodologies. Willingness to be agile and responsive to shifting scope and priorities.
