Senior Regulatory Economist
- Ongoing, full-time opportunity
- Salary starting from $141,830 plus 15% superannuation
Our Team
The Economic Regulation Division is a small, professional team working across the electricity and gas businesses in the ActewAGL Joint Venture. We provide strategic and economic regulatory advice that helps shape critical investments in the ACT's energy sector and navigate the opportunities of the energy transition.
We perform diverse and impactful work covering the ACT's electricity and gas networks – including pricing, regulatory reviews, policy and strategy.
The Opportunity
This role requires a passion for quantitative analysis and an eagerness for problem solving and strategic thinking. It offers a chance to apply and grow your analytical and modelling expertise while contributing to ActewAGL's strategic objectives in the evolving energy landscape.
You will play a key role in providing expert advice on pricing for electricity and gas network services and other economic regulatory matters impacting the energy industry. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, combined with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, are essential to succeed in this role.
A Day in the Life
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing regulatory pricing models, strategies and solutions that address the opportunities and challenges of electrifying the energy supply and the rise of distributed energy resources (such as rooftop solar and battery storage).
- Designing and refining tariff structures for the gas and electricity networks through detailed analysis, modelling and research – including customer preferences and behaviours, bill impacts, and efficient utilisation of the energy networks.
- Conducting annual pricing updates by undertaking analysis, preparing models, producing submissions to the regulator, and developing pricing materials for customers and other stakeholders.
- Performing quantitative analysis to inform strategies on key economic regulatory matters affecting the electricity and gas networks.
- Collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders on regulatory pricing and finance reviews and other matters.
About You
We're looking for a problem-solver with a passion for numbers and turning complex data into clear, actionable insights. Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, commerce, science/maths or a related discipline are highly valued. Experience applying quantitative approaches to real-world challenges, communicating complex information in a way that's easy to understand, and working in consulting, government, or industry would be an asset.
A detailed understanding of economic regulation in the utilities sector is a plus, but not essential. Experience in applying microeconomic theory in a commercial or regulated context would also be highly valued.
If you feel you have strong transferable skills, an interest in the changing energy landscape, and great quantitative and communication skills, we want to hear from you.
How to Apply
To apply, log onto our recruitment portal and submit your cover letter and resume outlining the experience, qualifications, and capabilities you can bring to the role.
