Overview

Associate Dean (Postgraduate Studies) – School of Education, Edith Cowan University (ECU). Based at Joondalup and Mt Lawley campuses, this is a three-year term as Associate Dean with an ongoing Associate Professor/Professor appointment.

Compensation and Term

Salary: $172,116 - $189,231 (Level D) or $220,621 (Level E) plus 17% superannuation and approximately $22,000 Leadership Allowance per annum as Associate Dean.

Three-year term as Associate Dean, with ongoing Associate Professor/Professor appointment.

Open to candidates with relevant working rights; relocation may be considered.

About The Opportunity

We are seeking candidates with substantial experience in postgraduate education and leadership within the university sector. The successful candidate will possess the vision and capability to lead and enhance our Postgraduate Studies portfolio, contributing meaningfully to the strategic priorities of the School. They will demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation in research, teaching and learning, and identify opportunities to engage in critical local, national, and international research and policy change.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, delivery and continuous improvement of postgraduate programs.
  • Oversee student progression, retention and completion.
  • Champion initiatives that enhance the student experience including supervision quality and academic support.
  • Monitor and respond to student feedback and performance data.
  • Collaborate with Associate Deans (Teaching & Learning, Research, Discipline) and the Executive Dean to enhance teaching, research, and strategic initiatives.
  • Strengthen national and international profile through partnerships and engagement.
  • Drive curriculum quality and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, and succession within the discipline.
  • Chair relevant committees and contribute to governance and strategic planning.
  • Ensure effective financial management and operational accountability.
  • Lead performance development, workload allocation, and compliance with ECU's Enterprise Agreement.
  • Monitor academic integrity, risk, and quality assurance across the portfolio.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and high-performing academic culture.
  • Initiate and design new course proposals in response to evolving market demands.

As a continuing Associate Professor/Professor you will also teach into postgraduate courses and devote time to research and scholarship within your field of expertise.

  • A PhD in a relevant Education discipline
  • Excellent scholarly record in teaching and research in Education
  • Strong leadership skills to ensure a cohesive and productive academic environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, to foster positive relationships
  • Capacity to lead change through effective collaboration and consultation.
  • Success in mentoring and coaching staff to achieve goals aligned with individuals career progression and School priorities.
  • Proven experience in leading values-based culture and positive behaviours
  • Commitment to continuous improvement both from a pedagogical, student, and School
  • Willingness to teach offshore in international postgraduate courses
