We seek experienced and enthusiastic Staff Specialists passionate about practicing holistic acute medicine, teaching and mentoring junior medical staff, and contributing to quality improvement in a growing acute medicine department.

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania's largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
Acute medicine is one of the largest inpatient departments in the hospital with excellent subspecialty support and opportunities for clinicians to be involved in research, clinical redesign, and quality improvement. Staff specialists are actively involved in the training of basic and advanced physician trainees and the supervision of international medical graduates. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of an evolving department and contribute to positive change in the Tasmanian health system.
We have recently recruited several new staff specialists to the team and plan to expand our Acute Medicine services that we provide, so this is an exciting time to join
Responsibilities:- You will have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in General and Acute Medicine.
- Contribute to the provision of high-quality inpatient and outpatient care to public and private patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) in Acute Medicine.
- Contribute to the Department of Acute Medicine's afterhours and weekend roster.
- Provide professional leadership to medical, nursing, and allied health staff and foster interdisciplinary teamwork.
- Be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as trainee and IMG supervision and mentoring.
- Be involved in research and undertake quality improvement activities.
Actively support and participate in service development to improve current services and develop new services in the Department of Acute Medicine.

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances, and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
Minimum Requirements:- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the specialty.
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
- Conviction checks in the following areas:
- Crimes of violence
- Sex-related offences
- Serious drug offences
- Crimes involving dishonesty
- Disciplinary action in previous employment check
