The role

As a Data Scientist / AI Engineer at Gilbert + Tobin, you will be a key part of our AI + Data team. You'll contribute to how we use advanced data science, machine learning, and agentic AI systems to evolve how legal work is done. In this collaborative environment, you'll work across the full lifecycle of AI-powered solutions—from concept to deployment. You will design, prototype and deploy systems that increase efficiency, enhance decision-making, automated processes, and unlock new capabilities for our lawyers, operations teams, and clients.

You'll Also

• Design and implement AI and ML solutions, including generative AI and agentic applications
• Use advanced retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) methods in real-world settings
• Build and coordinate AI agents using platforms like Azure AI Foundry, Semantic Kernel, MS Fabric, LangGraph and Model Context Protocol (MCP)
• Collaborate with business teams to rapidly test new ideas and ensure relevance
• Drive the deployment of production ready solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and quality

About You

You're a curious, solutions-focused professional who combines technical strength with a collaborative mindset. You enjoy solving complex problems, sharing ideas, and learning from others. Whether you're working on a data pipeline or designing an AI workflow, you're thoughtful about user impact and practical delivery.

We're Looking For Someone Who

• Is highly proficient in Python and software engineering best practices
• Understands and has experience with NLP, LLMs, and generative AI
• Good understanding of database technology such as SQL Server, Postgres or MS Fabric
• Has hands-on experience deploying AI systems in production
• Is curious, adaptable, and eager to learn new AI frameworks

Bonus Points For

• Experience with agentic AI design and advanced RAG concepts
• Familiarity with Azure AI Foundry, Semantic Kernel, LangGraph, MS Fabric, MCP
• Knowledge of JavaScript, Power Apps, or similar tech
• Professional services or legal industry experience
• Mentoring or project leadership experience
