Details: Working to the Senior Director First Nations Justice Branch, the Assistant Director Community Engagement will be responsible for improving cultural integrity and the manner in which the Justice and Community Safety Directorate works in partnership with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community through establishing and maintaining respectful and strong relationships. The Assistant Director Community Engagement will work closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, community organisations and ACT justice agencies to develop, deliver and manage a range of programs and other initiatives aimed at improving justice outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families engaged in the ACT criminal justice system.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people designated position: This is a designated position in accordance with s42, Discrimination Act 1991 and is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is considered essential and therefore a Confirmation of Aboriginality may be requested.
  • Disability Designated position: This is a designated position to be filled by a person with disability under thePublic Sector Management Act 1994 (Section 27 ss3) and Section 13 of thePublic Sector Management Standards 2016. Identifying this role aims to increase the diversity of the ACTPS workforce and eliminate disadvantage in relation to public sector employment.   • Tertiary qualifications in the relevant field are desirable.
  • Background/Security clearance checks will be conducted.

Note: This is a temporary position available 23 June 2025 until 24 April 2026 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. This position is in a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
