In this full-time, maximum term home-based role, you'll join Save the Children Australia's Climate Change Division (CCD) to lead the Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Communities through the Education Sector (BRACE). BRACE is a ground-breaking project that will support education systems in vulnerable countries to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Global Partnership for Education (GPE), BRACE is made up of three components:

  • Component 1 will directly address and respond to the impacts of climate change on the education sector and address future climate risks in Cambodia, South Sudan, and Tonga.
  • Component 2 will support Ministries of Education access climate finance and to lead climate-resilient sustainable development in the education sector.
  • Component 3 will support the education community to better coordinate, collaborate, and share lessons learned and experiences with a focus on climate finance.

Reporting to the Principal Climate Change & Education Advisor, you'll provide strategic leadership and oversight of BRACE, working closely with ministries of education, global partners, and in-country teams.

This is a unique opportunity to drive climate-smart education systems and unlock climate finance to protect children's learning and wellbeing in the face of climate risks.

You will make a difference by:

  • Leading the delivery of BRACE ensuring timely implementation, budget management, and technical and operational excellence. You will have direct responsibility for components 2 (access climate finance) and 3 (coordination) and work with country teams to ensure delivery of component 1 in Cambodia, South Sudan, and Tonga.
  • Providing high-quality technical leadership and producing impactful guidance, advocacy, and communications resources.
  • Building strong partnerships and ensuring effective functioning of the BRACE co-finance platform through stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • Overseeing project monitoring, reporting, and compliance to meet donor standards and ensure accountability across all components.

This role requires:

  • Proven experience as a Project Director or Senior Project Lead, with a track record of successfully managing large, multi-country initiatives in development or humanitarian settings.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across governments, donors, and global partners.
  • Expertise in strategic planning and operational oversight, including financial /budget management and donor compliance.
  • Familiarity with climate change and education programming, and comfort working across time zones in a remote, multicultural team environment.
  • High-level proficiency in project management tools and systems, with adaptability to emerging technologies and digital collaboration platforms.
