You'll influence and elevate high-performing teams by embodying visionary, collaborative, accountable, and inclusive leadership.

The Agile Coach will inspire, mentor, and elevate the organization's agile maturity, enabling it to deliver swiftly and effectively towards meaningful, human-centric results.

In this role, the Agile Coach will exercise a significant degree of autonomy, with their thoughtful decision-making serving as a cornerstone. As a leader, the Senior Agile Coach will spearhead innovation, navigate and guide change, and play an integral part in shaping and executing the agency's strategic vision.

Extension term details Up to a maximum of 24 months

Working arrangements

Location is capital city of selected states. Other locations will not be accepted. If candidate is willing to travel for this role, they must be willing to work at the mention location for the duration of the contract. The candidate is to work from the location on a fulltime basis for the first 6 weeks.

Work- from-home arrangements may be considered on a case-by- case basis however it is a standard requirement to work from the office location for a minimum of 3 days a week.

Security clearance Must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain Baseline

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Work across several agile multi-disciplinary teams to support problem definition, prioritisation, design, planning, development, implementation and acceptance of products
  • Coaching senior leaders on agile values, principles and practices to achieve operating efficiencies
  • Within a project management environment guide inexperienced or high-risk teams in the most relevant agile practice
  • Facilitate Agile training sessions with teams and senior leaders
  • Support teams through the stages of adopting, learning and supporting continuous improvement including process and maturity assessments and adoption roadmaps
  • Drive a common understanding of agile values, principles, and practices with the senior executive leadership group to enable the organisation to deliver better customer outcomes and faster, fit-for-purpose implementation by working in innovative ways. build and draw on a high level of expertise in agile principles and practices to lead communities of practice
  • Facilitate and support the organisational culture change necessary for sustained agile success
  • Coach and inform leaders and executives on the opportunities and benefits of applying Agile values, principles and practices across the organisation
  • Educate and coach staff to develop their knowledge and use of agile and innovative practices
  • Evaluate team/project goals to determine the most effective agile methodology to use.
  • Guide teams and executives through the transformation of work practices to create efficiencies at all levels of the agency, acting as a coach and leader
  • Help senior leaders to assess the agile maturity of their workforce and advise ways to improve.
  • Observe and evaluate the agile capabilities and needs of the agency and its members, to identify further development opportunities
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to understand and be able to support the team/s to achieve the strategic direction of the business area and the agency
  • Work with senior executive to plan for and implement effective agile team structures
  • Lead, plan and conduct coaching and mentoring sessions or workshops with senior leaders to teach new concepts, introduce tools and revisit existing practices or to gather new or update information, or showcase what has been accomplished
  • Embeds an inspect-and-adapt culture by helping establish metrics across the team. develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and networks including representing the organisation's interests
  • Use own Subject Matter Expertise and/ or research, analyse and apply problem solving skills to develop innovative solutions and support teams to scale and consistently adopt emerging best practices

Knowledge / Qualifications

Certified Agile Coach or equivalent Agile, Lean and Product Management qualifications, ( eg: Certified Scrum Master (CSM), ICAgile Certified professional, SAFe).

Essential Criteria
  • Certified Agile Coach or equivalent Agile, Lean and Product Management qualifications, ( e.g.: Certified Scrum Master (CSM), ICAgile Certified professional, SAFe)
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, principles, and practices, with hands-on experience implementing Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and scaling Agility across organisations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated experience in driving Agile transformations, developing an agile culture improving team performance, and delivering business value
  • Support teams to scale and consistently adopt emerging best practices including providing guidance to teams on their operating rhythm activities (business unit-level, team-level, enterprise-level)
  • Strong skills in implementing practices that support teams through the stages of adopting, learning and continuous improvement including process and maturity assessments and adoption roadmaps
  • Embeds an inspect-and-adapt culture by helping establish metrics across the team. Coach key stakeholders on how to use defined metrics as a diagnostic to identify improvement opportunities

Desirable criteria
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in coaching Agile teams in government environment
